About Margaretta
Margaretta Caesar is an expressionist oil painter whose work is deeply inspired by the beauty of nature, from the rolling foothills of Colorado to the Southwestern deserts and mesas. Drawing on her childhood memories of the western Pennsylvania hills and the ever-changing skies, she channels her love for the outdoors into bold, colorful paintings that emphasize emotion over realism. Her distinctive style combines rich, full-volume color with thick impasto and expressive brushstrokes, aiming to capture the essence of her surroundings while allowing each layer of paint to shine through, even the underpainting. Margaretta’s landscapes are a reflection of her personal connection to nature, whether through the plains, foothills, or the clouds that change with each passing day.
A passionate artist, Margaretta began her journey under the guidance of her mother, a portrait artist who encouraged her creativity from a young age. She studied art at Smith College and the University of Denver, where she earned her BFA in art education. After a successful career teaching and raising her children, Margaretta returned to painting, focusing on oils for the past decade. She admires artists like Van Gogh, Birger Sandzen, and the Taos 7, often drawing from their techniques but always finding her own voice on the canvas. Margaretta’s work is not just a form of expression but also a way to give back to the community, with her donations to the Alzheimer's Association raising significant funds. Her paintings are a testament to her lifelong love of nature and the power of art to connect, inspire, and heal.
